Voices TogetHER – Spotlight on Grounds for Health
July 31, 2025
Our Voices TogetHER series puts a focus on the people and organizations working to make cervical cancer elimination a reality.
This entry features a member of TogetHER’s member network, Grounds for Health, who have been implementing cervical health programs in coffee-growing regions of the world since 1996. Currently, Grounds for Health is coordinating cervical screening projects in Ethiopia and in Kenya.
Grounds for Health is playing a leading role in transitioning cervical cancer screening programs from visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) to HPV testing, which is more accurate, more scalable, and most importantly, more acceptable for many women given that samples can be taken in private by the woman herself.
We at TogetHER know that population-level impact is driven by evidence and experience in what works. That’s why we’re thrilled to see Grounds for Health leveraging its frontline experience to inform and improve policies and guidance.
Program Coordinator, Dr. Evah Muendo, was recently invited by Kenya’s Ministry of Health to participate in the development of a National Cervical Cancer Action Plan. In this post on Grounds for Health’s website, Dr. Muendo notes that this process “reaffirmed the power of collaboration between government and implementing partners.”
Meet some of the dedicated team members driving Grounds for Health’s incredible work in Kenya below, and check out more Voices TogetHER entries here. Thanks again to our colleagues at this incredible organization for sharing this powerful story!
