Voices TogetHER – Spotlight on Dr. Catharine Young and the Global Cancer Financing Platform

October 15, 2025

Our Voices TogetHER series puts a focus on the people and organizations working to make cervical cancer elimination a reality.

Our newest segment features Dr. Catharine Young of Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Dr. Young talked with the TogetHER team about last month’s announcement of the Global Cancer Financing Platform at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York City.

The Global Cancer Financing Platform is an innovative new mechanism seeking to mobilize $1 billion per year to shift cancer diagnosis from late to early stage, where survival is higher and treatment is more affordable. This will mean forging new partnerships with countries and generating financial support through new instruments, including a proposed microlevy on remittances. The Platform will initially focus on cervical and breast cancer.

Dr. Young shared a little about herself and her prior role as a senior advisor to the Biden Cancer Moonshot, as well as some details about the Global Cancer Financing Platform’s early steps. Watch some highlights of our conversation below.

More information can be found on the Global Cancer Financing Platform’s new website at www.gcf.finance. Also don’t miss this summary of Dr. HE Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu’s presentation on the Platform’s proposed pilot in Uganda.
