New WHO Guidelines on Thermal Ablation

TogetHER applauds the World Health Organization’s publication today of new guidelines on thermal ablation for treating precancerous lesions. We anticipate that many countries will update their screen-and-treat policies to incorporate thermal ablation as a result, which will increase access to cervical cancer prevention.

TogetHER is a champion of thermal ablation, which offers advantages over cryotherapy for treating precancerous lesions. Thermal ablation was the topic of a September 2019 TogetHER webinar, and both of the first two small grants awarded via our Cervical Cancer Grants Program supported introduction of thermal ablation, in Botswana and Nicaragua, respectively.
